APPLYING FOR A YOUTHBANK GRANT

1. A YouthBank near you

If you want to find out about applying for a grant from YouthBank you can contact the main YouthBank office on 028 90245927 or contact the YouthBank closest to you

2. What is a YouthBank grant

If you are aged 14 to 25, have a great idea for a project and there is a YouthBank in your area, you may be eligible for a small grant.  YouthBank committees are made up of young people who want to give out money to other young people in their community.  YouthBank funds lots of different groups.  Examples range from environmental projects, bands, projects looking at sexual health, programmes addressing drug issues; through to drama and dance groups, raising awareness around mental health issues and learning how to be a DJ, to name but a few.  To find out about the different types of groups that have received funding in the past year click here, or for more in-depth stories download our publication ‘YouthBank News’

3. How do I apply for money

If you contact your local YouthBank about applying for a grant they will give you an application form.  On the form you write details of your project idea and a breakdown of how much it will cost.  Grant awards vary and the maximum amount is £1000 / €1200.  If the YouthBank committee think your project is good they will ask you to come along to an informal interview so they can find out more about your idea.  After the interview the committee will make a group decision and then let you know as soon as possible if you have been successful.

4. Support

If you are awarded a grant you will sign a contract, agreeing to spend the money in a certain time and in the way you set out in your application form.  The YouthBank committee will offer you support and visit you during the life of your project.  At the end of your project you will be asked to write a short report and complete a questionnaire about how the grant impacted on you and others.  You will also provide receipts to show how you spent your grant.
