• Demonstrations

On 7th April 2010, followuing a series of demonstrations against the corruption of President Bakiyev and his family, the protest turned violent and culminated in the protestors occupying and burning government house.

The President fled to the south and eventually Belarus. His son, Maxim, hated by the Kyrgyz people, has sought asylum in London.

Here Bishek residents sit on the fence on the morning of the 8th, waiting to see what good will come of the revolution.

Photography by Tim Jeanneret, not to be used without permission.

 • Eagle

Hunting with golden eagles is a proud Kyrgyz activity, with the owner kidnapping the young chick from its nest before raising it like a parent. The relationship can last for over 10 years before the bird is retired. This eagle has a medal for taking on a wolf - wolves are common in Kyrgyzstan and kill many horses each year.

Photography by Tim Jeanneret, not to be used without permission.

 • Killings

Over 80 people were killed when police and special forces protecting government buildings, including snipers on the rooves, eventually opened fire into the crowd.

Some of the protestors had taken weapons from the police earlier in the day, and were also shooting. The violence took everyone by surprise, but there was a feeling there was no going back once the shooting had started and the President couldn't be allowed to maintain power by killing people.

Photography by Tim Jeanneret, not to be used without permission.
